Meaning of Stones

5/5/10

The Power of Stones:

Since the beginning of time, man has been using stones for many different purposes. It didn’t take much time for humanity to put meaning to stones and later to jewels. Nowadays it continues; we associate different stones and jewelry to meanings such as: faith, love, health, luck, eternity and even the four elements. The hardest and most precious stone in the world is a diamond. A diamond is associated with friendship, good luck, regard and eternity.

The jewelry that we create at Art-ifex is made with care and love, and we also keep in mind the characteristics of each stone we use as well as its meanings. Labradorite, Moonstone and Amber are some of my favorite stones. Labradorite is associated with promoting wisdom, intuition, and calmness. Moonstone is said to have passionate love that will fly you to the moon, and it is said to bring success in business. My love for Amber was developed as I learned how it was formed. Amber is actually not a stone or a mineral, it’s a fossil, but it’s considered a gemstone.  You might remember in the movie Jurassic Park the character John Hammond had a large piece of Amber in his cane handle with a mosquito trapped in it. Amber preserves insects from decompositions. Amber is actually formed from the sap of trees; this sap becomes fossilized over millions of years if the right conditions are met. Most often amber comes from pine trees. It is also said to have healing powers for stomach and kidney complaints.

Because there are over 100 gemstones I will give you a few of the gemstones we use and their meanings and properties:

Carnelian: Stone of victory and victors. Makes for a great talisman!

Garnet: The Garnet is a stone of purity and truth as well as a symbol of love and compassion. Garnets can be used to make a person popular and have self-esteem when worn as jewelry.

Jade: Ultimate symbol of calmness and serenity. It helps the mind by releasing negative thoughts.

Onyx:  Helps with self-mastery and determination, courage and tenacity

Pearls: Honesty, integrity, and wisdom. It helps with emotional stress.

Silver (the mirror of life): It is a major conductor and communicator, excellent for emotional and physical cleansing. It’s often associated with these words: hope and meditation, tenderness and love. Silver has the ability to energize other stones as well.

Next time you buy a piece of jewelry from Art-ifex, remember that we are not just making a one-of-a-kind piece; we are using every stone and  their meaning so that it benefits you in your personal life as it makes you feel more confident and beautiful. I hope you enjoyed learning the meanings and properties of these stones. I will continue adding new meanings of other stones as the blog continues.

Stay tuned for next week’s Art-ifex blog.

Welcome to our new blog!!

4/21/10

Hello there. For those of you who are not familiar with me yet, my name is Erin. I am pleased to be the first person to blog on our website. Each week Art-ifex will be sharing tidbits on different subjects and upcoming events that we’re involved with; whether it be a new beading technique or perhaps even how to tell if a jewelry piece is quality or not. Heck, if you have a particular subject you would like to know more on, shoot us an email, we’d be happy to feature our next article dedicated to your question. No matter the subject we hope you stay posted…

Upcoming Events and New Happenings:

It seems that while spring fever blossoms closer to summer, more and more events are popping up out of nowhere which is a wonderful opportunity for us to share our work with many people. Now that our website is running successfully and flourishing, we are exploring many avenues of business opportunities during a time that the economy seems to be quite harsh.

Recently we displayed our work for 2nd Saturday in front of the wonderful restaurant Zocalo (my personal favorite) and we plan to continue 2nd Saturday for a while. Lucky for anyone who stops by, the next 2nd Saturday falls on May 8th (just before Mother’s Day) so this will be a great opportunity for a gift for any Mom. The weather should be inspiring to be outdoors!

Next on our public event list is a Fashion Show at CSUS (my alma mater) coming up on 4.30.10 at 7pm, and the event sounds amazing. Boutiques, Designers, models…..it all sounds enticing, ey? We were fortunate enough to be invited to this event. Some of the models will be wearing our pieces on the runway, and we will also have a table. Feel free to check it out.

As for new happenings, we have decided to introduce jewelry parties to our company. We have a few of these parties planned already which should be a great deal of fun. What makes these events wonderful is that they are a win-win for everyone. The host of the party (this could be you) will earn 20% of all sales from their party in Art-ifex jewelry credit. The host can make the party as simple or extravagant as they wish (in-fact we have an entire brochure that lists all of the incentives and specifics). Their guests are all there to enjoy trying on our jewelry (all of which is one-of-a-kind) and if they choose to purchase, of course they may. If you have ever attended a jewelry party, you know they can be a ton of fun.

And last but not least we have introduced a great Early-Bird Mother’s Day incentive: Free shipping and no tax on any online purchase between now and this Sunday (4/25/10). Check it out! If I were you, I wouldn’t wait. Remember, Art-ifex makes one-of-a-kind jewelry and if you let something you like pass you by now, it very likely won’t be there next time.

That’s it for now. Check in with us next week for something new. Wishing you a joyous week!

-Erin, Art-ifex Designer
