Secret to extend a flower life

9/1/14

There are several ways to prolong the life of fresh flowers. Especially during a hot summer season, you must have experienced how difficult it is to keep flowers as fresh as possible.

I would like to mention the  most primitive and affordable way as follows:
1. Water:
Fresh, clean and cool water is quite important. Water should be changed as often as possible to keep it clean in order to avoid for bacteria growing. On top of that keep the water in reasonably cool temperature. If it is hot, bacteria easily grows, which is not good for fresh flowers to live long.

2. Clean and fresh cut:
When placing fresh flowers in water, it is important to take following actions:
a. Removing unnecessary leaves:
Get rid of unnecessary leaves from stems. The area which is under water should be as clean as possible to avoid for bacteria growing. Therefore you need to cut off unnecessary leaves before dipping flowers in water.

b. Angle cut of stems:
Before placing flowers in water, you had better cut stems with angle in order to make a large hydration space from where flowers can get water.

c. Fresh cut:
Ideally it is better to make fresh angle cuts. Namely in order to help flowers to easily and effectively be hydrated, you had better cut stems as often as possible.

By making above arrangements, the life of fresh flowers can be remarkably extended. The key words for extending flower life is "clean water", "clean stem", "fresh water", "cool water" and "fresh cut".

Pomander: Mandatory for wedding floral arrangements

8/27/14

All pomanders and flower balls shown in this page are made by students, instructor and graduates of California Flower Art Academy. Have you ever heard of POMANDER ? How about FLOWER BALLS ? Don't you know KISSING BALLS ? Many people have never heard of it and they have no idea at all about these terminologies. They are balls made of flowers and often used at weddings. Typically this item is held by a bride or used for decorating chairs at weddings.

Historically pomander was a ball of perfume and it was believed to protect against infection especially in times of pestilence in Europe. Nowadays this ball made of flowers has become one of mandatory floral decorations at the time of weddings. This COULD be placed on the table of a wedding party as a decoration. Brides look more beautiful at weddings and they may be protected during the coming long life by holding a pomander. Many pomanders available in the market are fake and they are not made of flowers.

At a wedding party, real pomanders made of real flowers should be used. At California Flower Art Academy students can learn how to make this special item. If you join Wedding Floral Decoration Advanced Course, you can learn how to make this flower ball. California Flower Art Academy has been engaged in teaching various kinds of floral designs in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley (San Jose, Santa Clara County) since 1990 as one of authorized schools certified by Flower Decorators Association that is one of the best established and most prestigious floral associations in Japan.

Uncountable number of students learned floral arrangements at our school and many graduates are now enjoying to make their own floral arrangements or engage in floral business as a floral designer or flower arrangement instructor not only in the Unites States but also outside of America. We offer a WIDE RANGE OF PROGRAMS among which each student can find his/her most favorite course which definitely fits his/her requirement.

You can take lessons not only on weekdays but also on the weekend. If you cannot spare time during daytime, you can join our evening class at San Jose classroom. Our unique way of hands on training based (ONE ON ONE instruction) on small group class system limiting number of students to six(max) will help you easily earn practical skills of flower arranging. If you are interested in joining our school, please do not hesitate to contact our administration office on info@california-academy.com We help you make a difference in floral art.

Facing Difficulties of Flower Cost Increase

8/27/14

California Flower Art Academy has been doing its best efforts for minimizing the increase of lesson fees since its foundation back in 1990. We have been trying to keep the original prices of lesson fees somehow or other. However for the past 24 years, the prices and cost of everything have been raised such as gasoline, classroom rent, flower materials fee as well as electricity and gas charge whatsoever. Being such situation we were obliged to make a slight increase on lesson fees of some programs/courses.

We are still making our best efforts not to raise or minimize increase rate of lesson fees in the sincere hope that our students can afford to learn at our school. As seen from our lesson fees on the internet, the tuition of most programs/courses still remain very affordable. All lesson fees announced on the internet include not only tuition but also flowers and some other materials such as floral foam ("Oasis") and containers as well unless otherwise described.

If you have any questions about our programs, courses and curriculum, feel free to contact info@california-academy.com
